Earth Rise

The Perseverance Flight

Celestis offers an Earth Rise Service where cremated remains and DNA samples are launched into space and then returned as Flown Keepsakes. Launched at dawn from a historic rocketry site, the spacecraft soars over 100 km high, briefly experiencing weightlessness amidst the stars before descending back to Earth, marked by sonic booms as it re-enters the atmosphere over California.

A helicopter retrieves the capsules, which are then returned to families as a keepsake along with a certificate detailing the mission’s success. To commemorate this unique journey, a professional video capturing the event is also provided, celebrating the moment your loved one’s memory touched the sky and returned home.

The Destiny Flight

Inaugurated in 1998 by NASA’s selection of Celestis to assist in honoring legendary scientist Dr. Eugene Shoemaker aboard the Lunar Prospector spacecraft, the Luna Service sends Flight Capsules of cremated remains or DNA samples to Earth’s moon.

What could be more compelling than looking up in the night sky at our glowing neighbor, knowing your loved one has completed a journey accomplished by so few? The Celestis spacecraft is a permanent lunar memorial for adventurous souls.

Celestis Luna missions also permit – for the first time in human history – off-Earth storage for DNA and digital data archives. All missions are conducted in strict adherence to international and national law, are easy to arrange, and provide a performance guarantee.

The Infinite Flight

As humans continue to reach out to explore and, eventually, to settle the solar system and beyond, it is entirely appropriate that our celebrations, rituals, and memorials accompany us.

For many, the notion of a final voyage in space – permanently traversing the cosmos – offers the most appropriate memorial for a life devoted to exploration, adventure, and cosmic awareness.

The Celestis Voyager Service launches a symbolic portion of cremated remains or a DNA sample into deep space, leaving the Earth-Moon system on an infinite journey.

Earth Rise Memorial Service

Earth Orbit

The Serenity Flight

Leaving the bonds of Earth to traverse the sky, experiencing the cosmic rhythms of sunrise and sunset every 90 minutes, transmitting a precise location in space to friends and loved ones below, the Celestis Earth Orbit service spacecraft provides a wonderful tribute.

Family and friends gather at the launch site joining space experts and astronauts for a three-day celebration of life, exploration, and remembrance. On launch day they witness the liftoff of a powerful rocket with the Celestis spacecraft and its precious payload aboard.

Once in orbit the spacecraft continues on its mission for months or years (mission dependent), eventually re-entering and burning up in entirety, blazing like a shooting star in final tribute.  Celestis Earth Orbit Service missions have always been respectfully engineered to avoid creating orbital debris.

“The stars don’t look bigger, but
they do look brighter.”

Your Journey To Space

Celestis Memorial

Since 1994, Celestis Memorial Spaceflights has made the dream of spaceflight a reality by launching a symbolic portion of cremated remains into Near-Space, Earth Orbit, to the Lunar Surface, or even beyond. You or your loved one will venture into space as part of a real space mission, riding alongside a commercial or scientific satellite.

It’s an ecological choice that is environmentally benign, which means it does not harm our earth. It’s easy to arrange and surprisingly affordable, especially compared to traditional burials involving embalming, caskets, plots, and expensive undertakings. All of Celestis’ Memorial Space Flights are authorized by US Government Regulations and comply with International Law.

Celestis DNA

By selecting the Celestis DNA service, you may choose a Celestis Memorial Spaceflight for yourself or a loved one, regardless of final disposition choice. A memorial spaceflight option is no longer limited only to those choosing cremation.

Even more, the Celestis DNA service now extends affordable personal spaceflight options to the living, providing the means for all of us to make a very real journey to space and even to elect off-planet personal DNA storage. Fly as one or with family and friends on a personal voyage among the stars.

Attend the Launch Event

For those wishing to attend the launch of the mission, a multi-day service is presented by Celestis. Launch site tours, a memorial service, and VIP viewing from a dedicated location provide a uniquely compelling and fulfilling experience that’s like nothing else available on Earth.

For nearly three decades, Celestis has honored the lives of loved ones from more than 35 nations.
