About The
Tranquility Flight

The Tranquility Flight will launch from planet Earth aboard the Astrobotic Peregrine Lunar Lander, one of the first NASA-sponsored commercial lunar missions. The launch vehicle for Tranquility/Peregrine is the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan Centaur rocket on its maiden voyage. The Centaur stage will deliver Peregrine to a Trans-lunar Injection (TLI) point. From there, the lander will complete its flight to the Moon and power itself to touchdown near the Guithuisen Domes, on the northeastern edge of the Oceans Procellarum, or Ocean of Storms, where the Tranquility Flight Capsules will rest in eternal repose.

After the touchdown, Peregrine will deploy several scientific and commercial payloads for various pioneering and valuable purposes, adding to the meaning for Tranquility Fllight families – knowing that your loved ones are truly part of a “mission of purpose.”

Participants
Aboard Tranquility

Aboard Tranquility will be precious remains of nearly 70 souls – and a DNA sample from iconic science fact and fiction author Sir Arthur C. Clarke. Tranquility participants from all walks of life and many countries will begin their journey to a permanent monument on the Moon from Launch Complex 41 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Each participant on board our memorial spaceflights has his or her own story. We invite you to read a brief overview of their lives, often told in the words of those closest to them.

A MISSION OF PURPOSE

The second Celestis Luna Memorial Spaceflight – the Tranquility Flight – will launch aboard Astrobotic’s Peregrine Lunar Lander, the first American spacecraft to land on the Moon since Apollo. Tranquility, as well as the Celestis Enterprise Flight to deep space, are launched aboard the first United Launch Alliance Vulcan Centaur rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Peregrine – and Tranquility – will touch down near a region called the Gruithusien Domes on the northeast edge of OcenanusProcellarun (Ocean of Storms) on the western part of the Moon’s near side. Upon completion of a successful landing, Astrobotic will release images of the final resting place.

An Unprecedented Mission

Here’s a look at Celestis’ upcoming Tranquility Flight by the numbers:

– The first flight of the Vulcan launch vehicle;
– The first commercial lunar lander (Astrobotic

Tranquility Flight Badge

The Tranquility mission logo continues the recurring Celestis theme of astronaut wings enveloping planet Earth as the Celestis payload – symbolized by the star rising in a plume of smoke – leaves the planet on its mission of purpose. The lunar surface beckons at the top of the design, inviting the spacecraft’s precious cargo – the Tranquility participants – to their final resting place. The numeric symbol “2” is prominently displayed, proclaiming the second time a Celestis spacecraft has reached the Moon and establishing this flight’s historic nature for all eternity.

Every Celestis mission has its own logo and mission patch, following the tradition of creating a unique identity for each launch dating to the earliest days of the American space program. The Tranquility mission logo is from well-known designer and illustrator Eric Gignac. Eric’s portfolio also includes co-designing NASA Space Shuttle mission patches for the STS 128 and 133 missions.
